BRITISH MOTORS
Advance in Dominion
Mr.. S. G. K. Smallbone, secretary and director of Morris Motors Ltd., who has been associated with Sir William Morris since the inception of the Morris companies, and who is paying his second visit to the Dominion, has just completed a two months’- tour of the North and South Islands.
“It is pleasing to be able to state,” said Mr. Smallbone, “that the British motor trade generally, and our own companies in particular, have made tremendous forward strides in the export side of the business. Sir William Morris, who was in New Zealand a couple of years ago, has travelled practically every country iu the world studying market conditions and road requirements. He will shortly, go to Buenos Aires to the great exhibition, where Morris products will be conspicuously represented. "We are now marketing cars and commercial vehicles in practically every civilised country, and many foreign Governments have been extensive buyers. We have highly skilled technical experts and factory representatives everywhere studying conditions and furthering Morris interests preparatory to another great forward push in our trade. “It is realised that the overseas Dominions are one of our biggest potential markets, and while I spent, some time here two years ago, I have gone into conditions in greater detail on this trip. “You are no doubt particularly interested in our activities in New Zealand, where we consider we have a great future. It is our intention to centralise the control of our products in New Zealand through one channel, and with the cooperation and help of our existing organisation this is gradually being done. I hope to be able to make an important statement in regard to this ' matter shortly. Future shipments to the Dominion will be very much bigger and’we hope, by unifying our control, to cut down costs and establish a more efficient system in relation to our sales, service and advertising policies.” Mr. Smallbone is leaving on December 16 by the Makura for Sydney, and he ex pects to be in Australia about six weeks before returning to England.
