MOTOR-CYCLING

(By “Cinders.”) 1 Teams races were held for the first time at the Kilbirnie Speedway last Saturday night, and, to judge by the enthusiastic reception given, to them by the large audience, their success was assured from the start. The standard of racing was excellent, and, taking things all round,, the contests were easily the best, seen this season. There were four riders in each race, two from each team. Three points w ero given for a first place, two for second, and one for third. It was a ease of “each man, for himself,” and not only was there a good struggle for first and second places, but there was also an equally hard one for third place. Kilinister’s team, although beaten in the first three races,, ended up with thirtyone points to its credit, Bishop’s team gaining twenty-three. • / In addition to J. Bishop am. C. Anderson, several other Queensland motorcyclists are visiting New Zealand this season. Two of them, H. Buchanan and L. Hale, have been competing in' Auckland. and they will compete at Kilbirnie on Saturday night. Bishop and Anderson will go to Auckland. This arrangement has been made in view of the fact- that negotiations with Auckland for an interprovincial contest in Wellington next Saturday night broke down. The Golden Helmet will again be competed for at Kilbirnie Stadium on Saturday. J. Bishop, the present holder, will- not be h'ere to defend his title to it. Something really thrilling i the way of teams’ races will be staged at the Kilbirnie Stadium on December 20. when English and Australian riders will compete against Wellington men. The English riders will be J. Kempster and N. Evans.

11. Stevens, another. rider who hails •from Brisbane, is due .to arrive in Wellington at Christmas.

Early in January there is to be a test race between an Australian team and a Wellington team in Wellington. Fay Tnylour, who was in New Zealand last season, has been giving exhibition rides on the Continent. Women competitors are debarred from participating in dirt-track events in England.
