POWER-BOAT RACING
Lashings had been cast Off and everything appeared ready for the launching of the launch Mina, which had been undergoing repairs at Ballena Buy. The cutch on the winch was slipped, -and with the aid of several onlookers, the bout was sent speeding down, the slipway toward the water, when—crash—and though the boat had reached the water, her mast, boom and some very necessary gear remained On shore. A rope from the masthead had trailed over the side and caught in an obstruction. A new must will be needed. . .. Port Nicholson Motor-Boat Club. The first race .of the season of the Port Nicholson Motor-bout Club, the Cable Handicap, was run off on Saturday. Only five launches started ■us some owners have not got their boats in order yet. Kereru und Rawhiti had a great tusslb over the last half-mile, Kereru crossing the line with 24sec. to spare. The results are as follow :—Kereru (W. Cable), scr., 45min. 44see., 1) Rawhiti (S. Bayley), 13min., 59min. Bsec., 2; Taua (D. Robertson), smhi., 52min. 2sec., 3; Wanderer (C. Macgibbon), 7min., 57min. 12 sec., 4: Lloma (R. Gregory), 4min., 54 min'. 33sec., 5.
