TALK OF PEERAGE
Australia’s New Governor SIR ISAAC ISAACS HAILED London, December 7. The “Sunday News” understands that there is a strong probability that Sir Isaac Isaacs, the new GovernorGeneral of Australia, will be raised to the Peerage. - City comment on Sir Isaac Isaacs s appointment has so far been mainly confined to expressions of relief that a man of such extreme ability and unquestioned impartiality should have been selected. i Share quotations have not been affected. Some brokers believe that the appointment tends to counteract rather than otherwise the depressing effect of the publication of the reduced Australian revenue returns. The “Economist,” referring to Press • apprehension that the governorship will become a reward for political seivices, points out that future GovernorsGeneral may be drawn not only from Australians, but from distinguished persons in other parts of Empire. The paper does not doubt, but that future Premiers will be guided by the success or failure of the recent expert ment in recommending selections of G overnors-General.
