The Salvation Army’s youngest recruit, Marion Ruth, the three-months-old eleventh grandchild of General Higgins, joined up to the accompaniment of and prayers at Wimbledon Citadel. She played cheerfully with her grandfather’s epaulets as he asked the congregation to keep her from intoxicants, tobacco, finery, wealth, hurtful reading and worldly acquaintances.
