Imprisonment for Theft. — Charged with stealing £8 at the sailors’ home on December 6, the property of Victor Woolf, Harry Thomas Betts was sentenced to two months gaol in the Lyttelton Magistrate’s Court yesterday morning, states a Press Asosciation message from Christchurch.
Te Arolia Jubilee Celebrations. — The Te Aroha jubilee celebrations were concluded on Saturday, when a Paddy’s market was held in the main street, affording amusement and helping to defray the jubilee expenses. A brass band and “Kilties” provided music. There were fully 5000 people in Whitaker Street, and in the evening hundreds danced in the street to band music. The carnival was remarkably successful, states a Press Association message.
Flaxmillers’Wage Cut Request to be Considered. —At a meeting of the executive of the Flaxworkers’ Union at Shannon on Saturday, consideration was given to the millers’ request for a reduction of wages under the Arbitration Court award. It was decided to hold a conference with the millers as soon as possible, reports a Press Association message from Palmerston North.
