AMUSING COMEDY

The production of a play by Oscar Wilde is a matter of consequence in the theatrical and in the literary world, so that It is not unnatural that the National Repertory Treatre Society’s coming production of The Importance of Being Earnest” should arouse such interest as is evidenced by the heavy booking recorded. The older generaitions of theatregoers-re-call with pleasure this inimitable piece of farcical comedy—its laughable situations and its brilliant wit; and many no doubt will seize the opportunity of reviving'post pleasures when the play Is staged at the Y.W.C.A. Hall next week. The cast selected by the society is an exceptionally talented one, and one well suited to convey the spirit of youth necessary in the amusing love scenes. Jfiss Beryl Earle 'and Mr. A. D. Priestley will appear as one pair of lovers, and Mr. John Bown and Miss Hazel Wells as the other. Miss Louise Hall should add further to her successes as the brilliant but caustic Lady Bracknell: and Miss Ethel Oldbury-Jones and Mr. Barton Ginger get ample scope for comedy characterisation as Miss Prism and Canon Chasuble, respectively. Messrs. J. R. Herd and Ernest Coleridge complete the cast. Preparations are well in hand. Rehearsals show that the company is ready for action, and tlie special settings and properties hare all been made. Mr. W. S. Wauchop, who has established a reputation for attention to detail, is again the producer. The season of five nights commences on Tuesday next. The box plans are now open at the Bristol.
