GIFT COUPONS
Cost to the Public In the correspondence column of yesterday’s “Dominion” “A Small Retailer’’ asked: “What does Mr. J. Myers mean when he says that the public would not tolerate the coupon system if they knew what it was really costing them?” Mr. Myers, to whom the question was referred, said: “The answer is that customers can have a monthly account with most retail firms and get a discount of 2} per cent., which enables them to purchase what goods they like with a discount at moderate prices, instead of '•etting certificates which are based on the rate of 2$ per cent, to secure gifts, the prices of which are considerably in excess of the sum that can be purchased in any retail establishment.
