Twelve-year-old Girl’s Death
VICTORIAN HORROR (Rec. December 5, 6.30 p.m.) Sydney, December 5. Detectives, who in all States have covered thousands of miles searching for the murderer of Mena Griffiths, aged twelve, at Bentleigh, near Melbourne, to-day arrested in Sydney Robert McMahon, aged 36, a labourer, on a provisional warrant from Victoria. . McMahon was charged with the murder of the girl, who was outraged before death.
Foully done to death after being outraged, the body of Mena Griffiths was found in an empty house at Bentleighi on November 9. A gag was knotted tightly round the face, and death was apparently due to suffocation. The girl’s companions saw her leave the playground with a man who has been described to the P °The murder of Mena Griffiths is not the only atrocity which the Australian police are endeavouring to sheet home. A few weeks later occurred the tragic killing of Miss Molly Dean, aged 25, a eS teacher at the Melbourne University High School at Elwood (Victoria). The police have followed many lines ffivesSgaHon but are now of thei opinion that the murderer, who is still at large, is a sexual maniac.
