TEAMS COMPETITION

Speedway Innovation In England the league team contests have been largely responsible- for the great popularity of “dirt track” racing. Speedway team racing is to be staged for the first time in New Zealand at the Kilbirnie Stadium to-night, when W. Kilmlster will captain one side and J. Bishop the otaer. Apart from the captains there will be two other riders who have had experience of this form of competition in England, and they will be supported by riders who have reached a high standard of performance in other competitions. In each race of the teams competition there will be four competitors (two from each side) and points will be awarded as follow:—First, 3: second, 2; third, 1. With nine races the total points will be 54, and the team scoring most points will win the contest. It will not only be a contest for first places as the points for other places will be valuable as contributions to the aggregate. The races will be from rolling starts, and they should provide many thrilling battles for places. Other events will make up a programme which should provide an excellent supply of the many features of this thrilling sport. The following teams have been selected:— Bishop’s team: Wilkinson. Harvle, Naylor, Mangham, Grove, and Bishop. Kilmlster s team: Anderson, Tonks, Ranby, Palmer, Santi. and Kilmlster. The emergencies are Hunger and Lucchesi.
