The East Renfrew by-election resulted :— Marquess of Clydesdale (Con.) 19,653 T. Train (Lab.) 12,293 Oliver Brown (Scottish Nationalist) 4,818 Conservative majority .. 7,360 The Marquess of Clydesdale is a bachelor, aged 27, and he is known as t 1 “Boxing Marquess.” The Marquess three years ago made a holiday tour of New Zealand. The Wellington Boxing Association considered matching him against the New Zealander Brian McCleary on behalf of charity, but nothing came of the proposal. He is an aviator ana the son and heir of the Duke of Hamilton. The Labour poll dropped nearly 5000 compared with last election. Eightyone per cent. Of the elect —ate voted. At the general election the voting was: Alex. M. Macßobert. G.C (Con.) 18,487 Rev. J. Muiifo (Lab.) 16,924 Conservative majority .... 1,563
