Arising out of tho Jockey's strike at Moorefield on Saturday, an inquiry was held at the Austrlian Jockey Club offices to-day, when, after receiving an expression of regret from the jockeys concerned, fho Stipendiary Stewards decided to take no action. It is understood that a petition is being prepared by jockeys asking that there should be some limitation on the fields on suburban courses. The jockeys concerned were engaged in the last race, the Carlton Mile, at the Moorefield races. They went on strike until the field was reduced to eighteen. They contended that'the size of tile field made the running of the race dangerous. The field originally numbered twenty-two. The jockeys claimed that it was too many for a small course like Moorefield, which bus been the scene of many former accidents owing to overcrowding. A conference of parties to the butchers’ dispute Lias agreed to refer the Sydney meat strike issues once again to the Industrial Commission over which Judge Piddington presides in the hope of reaching a settlement. An attempt to wreck the barracks occupied by master butchers at Aberdeen who are killing stock for the Sydney trade was made by about thirty men. They maintained a fusillade of missiles, throwing them until scattered by the police, Who fired over the heads of the attackers. Large quantities of blue metal were hurled through the doorways and windows of the barracks, where there were 54 butchers. A wild scatter took place when the police, who are also living on the premises, brought revolvers into play. Additional police are being rushed to Aberdeen. All is now quiet. Arising out of the receht application by the Railway Commissioners in the Eastern States for the right to vary the employees’ awards in order ti> institute emergency schemes of retrenchment, the High Court was asked by the unions and the Federal Government to decide the question as to whether the State railway authorities could be made parties to the Federal awards.
