A great arch connected with Biblical times, and supposed to be “the causeway of the going up.” mentioned in I Chron. xxvi. 16, has been discovered during repairs to the drainage canal in the old city under the synagogue close to the “Wailing Wall." ’ ’m arch belongs to a series which in Jewish times supported a street leading from the temple area to the lipper city.
