Praise for Londoners COMPARISON WITH PAST London, November 24. As a result of a two years’ investigation'directed by Sir Hubert Smith, the eminent economist, it is stated that Londoners are more sober and healthier, and better educated, than they were forty years ago. The Londoner of to-day consumes 50 per cent, less alcohol, smokes twice as much, travels more, spends four times as much, reads four times as many books, is less Inclined to crime and violence than the Londoner of forty years ago. The Cockney; dialect is disappearing, but the Cockney twang is spreading to other classes.
