FRUIT EXPORTERS

Dominion Conference

MARKETING PROBLEMS

Questions of interest to the New Zealand fruit grower, more particularly in reference to marketing and export, were discussed at a conference of fruit exporters in Wellington yesterday morning. Delegates were present from all parts of the Dominion, and in the various matters that came before the meeting for discussion they had the benefit of the advice of the chairman of the Fruit Export Control Board. Mr. J. L. Brown, who has just returned to the Dominion after a comprehensive investigation of marketing and distribution methods in Great Britain and the Continent of Europe. The conference was convened by the board so that its members and executive officers might get together and discuss with the exporters questions of mutual said he had come back with quite a number of definite ideas that might alter in some way the Dominion’s marketing proposals. The thing that struck him first was that production of fruit was increasing, not only in respect to New Zealand, but also as far as other fruit-producing countries were concerned. Holland dumped enormous quantities of fruit into Britain. Italy was now in the fruit trade, and every country was now paying more and more attention to marketing and the get-up of the packages. . Several remits held over from the Fruitgrowers’ Federation Conference, together with other results relative to distribution and marketing, crises, grades and sizes, shipping, and cool storage, most of them of a technical nature, were discussed by the conference.
