THE CUP TRIALS Sunday Racing* Proposed FIXTURES. To-day (Evening)—Sanders Cup Trial. Nov. 29—Opening Plimmerton Boatiug Club. ' Evans Bay Yacht and Motor Boat Club's race for keel-yachts andpossibly centreboard-yachts if .Sanders Cup Trials'are not held. Nov. 30 —Opening Port Nicholson Motor Boat Club. Dee. (j—Races: Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club. Dee. 13—Races: Evans Bay Yacht and M.B.C. Dec. 20—Launch Races: Ev;ws Bay Yacht and M.B.C. Sanders Cup Trials. H Once again. bad weather has caused tlie Wellington Sanders Cup Trials to be postponed temporarily. As anticipated, the various boats’ skippers have protested against evening trials. They claim that to be at tlie starting point in time means .that the boats have to be hurriedly • rigged and thus the best results cannot possibly be obtained. Also those taking part have to go tealess which is distinctly unpleasant on a bitterly cold night. It is understood that they arg. trying to. persuade the selector to have the trials held during a week-end. If he is agreeable the Evans Bay Yacht and Motor Boat Club is willing to hold over its centreboard fixture for Saturday next to allow its candidates to compete in the trials without prejudicing their chances in the club championship.

Sanders Cup Candidates; On Saturday Wellesley and Miss Josephine took part in the Port Nicholson races and Miss Josephine again beat her rival with comparative ease. The Clyde under full sail had a rather rough trip from Evans Bay to the Boat Harbour and back. It is hoped that this mainsail is not the one they use during the trials as the shaking it got will scarcely improve its set. On Sunday Betty was seen out for a practice spin. The crew is evidently determined that, as far as’ they are concerned, there will be littlechance of a mistake to occur.. The leader was set and reset in great style and their other manoeuvres were carried out excellently. Certain of the other candidates would do well to practise also, especially, with their leaders, ■/

Port Nicholson Yacht Club. It calls for some comment that only two of the second class keelers were at the starting line on time for the race last Saturday. The two were Galatea and Nanette. It should not be difficult to be ready by three; the first class yachts were. Except for Irex all were Boat Harbour bouts, too. Evidently as a just reward, the two boats which were out pn time weye tfie prize-winnehs. Despite the large entry only five boats participated in the 18ft. and under handicap and one of these was a Paremata boat. About six Evans Bay yachts arrived just after the race had started. The winner, Ngaio, sailed an exceptionally fine race.

Evans Bay Yacht Club. Next 1 Saturday a race will be held by the Evans Bay club for keel yachts, starting um|er the Mark Foy system, The limit boat will be started at 2.30 p.m. The 18ft. and under club handicap for first and second class bouts may be postponed on account of the Sanders Cup trials. A sweepstake race will probably be arranged for the bouts not attending the trials if this happens. Entries close at 9. o’clock to-night at the clubhouse.

Heretatinga Boating Club. The.,rough weather, rather, marred the opening of the Heretaunga club. Had the weather been more pleasant quite a number of visiting boats would have attended. The Evans Bay yachts Clutlm and Romp arrived, aud after dipping their flags set. off home again. They are to' be thanked for th<;ir courtesy in attempting the long beat, across the harbour. The club has now quite a large number of boats under its flag and anticipates an unusiially successful season. That 18ft, and Under Handicap. It was very unfortunate that only five boats were started in the Port Nicholson 18ft. and under handicap as no fewer than seven boats left Evans Bay to take part in the race. They had a long and tedious beat against the heavy northerly, apd this made them late. Only the scratch boat, Kio, which left slightly before the others, arrived in time to participate. In order to prevent any more disappointment the Port "Nicholson club has announced that in future the race will be started at 3.15. Boisterous Sunday, In spite of Sunday’s boisterous'weather several yachts went cruising. Aisla, Spray, Viola, Nanette, and Isea were at Somes Island, Mnrangi and Atalanta at Scorching Bay, while Gala ten anchored at Lowry Bay. Both Marangi and Galatea were caught by the southerly. The latter bad to clear Lowry.Bay so quickly that half the crew and. all the passengers were left ashore. The Marangi had an unenviable bent up Evans Bay, and seemed to experience considerable difficulty in picking up'her moorings. Port Nicholson Motor-Boat Club. ■ During, the'past: few weeks member’s of the Port Nicholson Motor-Boat Club have been overhauling their launches ip readiness for opening ‘day, Launches, will leave the boat harbour at 10.15 u.m. for one of tho bays’ which one it will be will depend on the weather. The outiiig Avill be a ladies’ pienie. and during tho morning the season will be officially opened by the Hou. 11. Atmore. M.P. ..The committee has arranged a large apd varied programme, assuring a good day's fun for both young and old. Worser Bay Activities., A fresh northerly wind provided n thrill for 'three Worser Buy boats that went out on Saturday afternoon. Ngaroma set a spinnaker and sliowe'd a good turn'of speed with the powerful gusts of wind off the bills. The vetefun Spitfire was also out with her jib, which assists her considerably. If only the Takarmnas were provided with a jib originally, they' would be a much bet ler boat on tlie wind. Tlicir crews intended tp attend at tho opening of the Heretaujjgii Club, but since it is almost Impossible to sail on a dead ■ beat for-eight miles and a run of another eight in an afternoon, the project wns . Mr. N. McKenzie's Idle Along class boat Kiwi is now almost finished. He has made a good job of her. and she should provide a good match for Demon. Both are built of the same timbers, aud It is anticipated that the handling alone will decide which is to ba the faster. Members are looking forward to the club rqces which will start on Saturday, for it is with the, races .that the club's season; commences in earnest.
