MINING DISPUTES
New Board Formed OWNERS & WORKERS Difficulties Overcome (Rec. November 24, 5.5 p.m.) British Wireless. Rugby, November 22. The Under-Secretary for Mines, Mr. E. Shinwell, has announced the composition of a Coal Mines National Industrial Board appointed under the Coal Mines Act for the hearing of disputes between owners and miners. Some difficulty and delay had been caused by the refusal of the Mining Association, the Federation of British Industries Association, the British Chamber of Commerce and the Confederation of Employers’ Organisations to make a nomination. The “Manchester Guardian” says that the constitution of the board will command confidence. It is representative of the owners’ side as well as of the miners of a considerable section of the industry. No South Wales or Scottish owner has consented to sit, but coal owners’ associations in other districts were more friendly.
