Tricky Conditions OLD NAVALS CLUB The Old NavalS'Rifle Club’fired the firrt shoot of the Hugo Memorial Cup at Trentham on Saturday afternoon over the 809 yds. and flOOyds. ranges. The shoot counted for the club championship and. second series. The moderate right wind which prevailed throughout the afternoon did not ■favour big scoring, as the changes in velocity and direction were frequent. However, some of the members were able to keep in step with the elements, and emerged, with creditable scores. The younger members in particular adapted themselves to th# conditions. . " ■’'' ' The best scorers at 800yds. were P. W, Congreve and R. Swanger, 4” each; W. !&;- Bain, W. Bell, J. Pitt, A. Henderson and K. S. Press, 43 each. At the 000yds, range. Pres. W. Mcßain was top with 47, followed by C. LftWton 45, J. Pitt and It. Dawson 43 .each. The best aggregate gun scorei were Pres. Wi Mcßain 00, C. Lawtpn 86, i. Pitt SO, P. W. Congreve 86. ..

KARORI CLUB The Karorl Club shot the third event of the season's championship series on ■Saturday. It was the. first of the long ranges, and Wris over 800yds. and 000yds. The conditions were tricky enough to upset the best of calculations as to windage. At 800yds. A. I. Coleman returned 49. iStartlng off wlith a wits for bls first sighter, he managed to get a hit with hi» second—“dn-outer.!’ His first five counters were “bulls.” R. Porter and Pres. R. Caughley each scored 45. At OOOyds. H. V. Croxton led tha field, by scoring 44 with a five-bull finish. R. Porter ' also came along with a 44, but with not Such a good finish. L. Old was third with 43. . . „ , v Porter's 45 and 44 off the gun, Was « creditable performance under the conditions, and placed him on top for the day. The second place was filled by a first year shot, G. Hunter, who, with 10 handteap, reached the dub standard of 89. A. I. Coleman was third. The weekly competition resulted: Scratch man, H. V. Croxton, 41, 44—85; handicap man, R. Porter, 45, 44, o—B9.

v, PETONE CLUB . / The petonc Rifle Club fired a further competition, counting for the championship and Flaws Cup, also the second match of the long range handicap series, on Saturday at ranges SOO and-900 yards. For the most part members were disappointed with their tottfls, as the weather conditions were against high scoring, - , e . . At SOO yards T. Chapman finished strongly to score 4S and was top scorer. L. Wales was next fith 47, his score Including a “bird.” W. H. Ballinger and F. Kershaw followed With 46 each, J. Hunter, R. H, Nleholl, and'C. Lusty 45 each. At 900 yards the outstanding performance was that by F. Harris, a new member, who finished with an inner to score. 48. This total is 4 points above the club standard. H. Dickson and T. Warburton each registered 45, followed by N< E- Solomon and H.
