LONDON MARKETS Tallow and Hemp The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated November 22, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London:— Tallow.—Poor demand at auction; 465 packages offered and 109 sold. Present quotations for spot are: —Mutton: Fine, 31/-; fair to good, 27/- to 28/6; dark to dull 25/6 to 26/-. Beef: Sweet and/or mixed, 28/- to 35/-; fair to good, 25/6 to 27/6; dark to dull, 24/- to 25/-.- Mixed: Fair to good, 25/6 to 27/-; dark to dull, 24/- to 25/-. Gut, etc.: 22/- to 25/-. Hemp. —Manila market quiet but steady. “K” grade . November-January shipment sold £23, and value. Output of Manila from January 1 to November was 1,112,000 bales, against 1,357,000 for same period last year. Stocks in Manila on October 31 were 108,000 bales against 213,000 at same time last year. Stocks In England 14,056 against'l2,lo7. Sisal: Market steady. Business has been done in first grade good marks November-January shipment at £22/10/- to £22/15/-; fair average quality first grade, £22; first grade tow, £lB/10/-. New Zealand: Little more inquiry for Immediate shipments, but no interest in distant consignments. Nominal value November-December shipment, highfair £23/15/-, fair £22/10/-, common £2l 10/-, rejected £lB/10/-; tow, second grade £l5, third grade £l3/10/-. No first-hand sales reported. Wool: Bradford market quotations for merino tops are firm. More Interest in crossbreds but quotations nominally unchanged. FURRED SKIN SALES Local and in London Owing to a fair number of consignments coming to hand, Dalgety & Co. Ltd. held a rabbit and opossum skin sale on November 20, and practically cleared all lots under the hammer. Taking into consideration the quality and condition of the skins offering, competition was fairly good and prices well up to the October sales quotations. London Rabbitskin Sales.—At the sales held in London on November 19, there was a good demand for furriers. Winters and first bucks were 10 per cent, to 20 per cent, higher, and incomings 5 per cent, to 10 per cent, higher than the September sales quotations. London Opossum Skin Sales.—At the October sales 32,000 New Zealand skins were offered, mostly last season’s. There was a fair demand for greys, which declined 25 per cent, as compared with last April, but darks did not attract much competition, and where sold were mostly 30 per cent, cheaper. Dalgety & Company have received the following cablegram from their head office: —Offered 2634 bales: sold 1550 bales. Demand good for furriers, winters, thin pelts, and firsts. Incoming 5 per cent, to 10 per cent, higher. Bucks 10 per cent, to 20 per cent, higher. Hatters difficult to sell. Pulling 10 per ceut. lower; unpelled, 20 per cent, lower. Light racks about September rates. SYDNEY WOOL SALES Prices Remain Firm (Rec. November 24, 10.30 p.m.) Sydney, November 24. The average price of the wool Eold last week was 8.3 d. per lb. The offerings at to-day’s sale were 10.647 bales, of which 9803 were sold at auction as well as 848 bales which • were disposed of privately. Prices were quite equal to last week’s with strong Continental and Japanese competition, and fairly good support from other sections of tiie trade. Greasy Merino made up to 26£d. The average prices for the last six weeks of the season's sales have been 8.5 d., 8.2(1., 8.2(1.. 7.8(1., 8.3 d. and 8.3 d. per lb. The offerings at Sydney wool sales for the rest of this week will bo: Tuesday, 10,071 bales; Wednesday, 10,300 bales; Thursday, 10,994 bales.
