TOWN v. COUNTRY
Annual Cricket Match CITY ELEVEN CHOSEN One of the most interesting fixtures on the Wellington cricket programme is the annua] trial of strength between Town and Country, which is to take place on the Basin Reserve on Friday and Saturday next. More than usual interest will attach to the match this season in view of the selection of the New Zealand team to tour England next year. Mr. W. S. Brice, sole selector, has chosen the following team to represent the Town: — C. S. Dempster (Institute), captain. J. Newman (Midland). E. D. Blundell (Wellington). J. Standidge (Midland). J. R. Lamason (Old Boys). R. Crook (Kilbirnie). A. Hamilton (Petone). W. F. Airey (Wellington). W. Hepburn (Kilbirnie). F. C. Warnes (Hutt). E. Tindill (Midland). Mr. Brice has chosen a well-balanced side, in which youth predominates. Assuming that K. C. James (Old Boys) and 11. M. McGirr (Hutt) were not available, every member of the side has earned his place on this season’s performances. The team is strong in batting, and in R. Crook J. Newman (fast-medium), E. D. Blundell (medium), and F. C. Warnes and W. F. Airey (slow), the attack should be up to requirements. The best feature about the team should be the fielding, as the youthful side should be able to move fast and cut off runs. Tindill will wear the gloves.
