DRIVER ARRESTED
Sequel to. Bank Hold-up CHARGE OF COMPLICITY (Rec. November 23, 5.5 p.m.) Sydney, November 23. Victor Hoare, a taxi-driver, has been remanded to December 1 on a charge of complicity in the Alexandria bank hold-up. Bail has been refused. Just before midday on Friday, Henry Hodgkinson, a teller in the Alexandria branch office of the English, Scottish, and Australian Bank, was shot in the face by an intruder who attempted a hold-up. The teller returned the fire with his revolver, and mortally wounded his assailant, who was helped to a taxi-cab by two companions, and driven away. Later ms body was thrown out of the car. Lbe taxicab driver informed the police that he was quite ignorant of the attempt to hold up the hank. Three men engaged him without disclosing their mission. Ho heard shots at the bank, when the three men rushed into his cab and told hnn to “drive like hell.” Later when the driver saw the police were overtaking him he stopped the car, makinng the excuse to the men inside that his petrol was exhausted. ____________
