MUSICIANS’ AWARD
Little Change Made LIMITED JURISDICTION A short-term award, which practically carries on the former award for.another year, has been made by the Court of Arbitration in the Dominion musicians’ industrial dispute. “The court has settled the matters in dispute on the lines of the expired award,” states Mr. Justice Frazer in a memorandum. "A number of departures from the provisions of that award were discussed at the bearing, but, owing to the form of the claims and counter-pro-posals, the court had not jurisdiction to deal with them, and a conference between the parties proved abortive. ... It is open, of course, to the parties at any time to agree to refer to the court any proposed amendments to or extensions of the award to meet changing conditions.” A number of applications to add new. parties and to vary the areas described in the scope clause have been held over until the court has heard the parties concerned in the different centres.
