Palmerston Celebrations, CHILDREN’S DAY Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North, November 22. The last day of the celebrations to commemorate the elevation of Palmerston North to city status was devoted to the children of the secondary and the primary schools of the city. The day was cold and windy with intermittent showers, but nevertheless, many thousand children and adults braved these conditions. At 2.30 this afternoon a procession left the Technical School in Princess Street circled the Square, and then to the showgrounds by way of Rangitikei and Cuba Streets. The procession was a lengthy one and while the first vehicle was turning into Rangitikei Street from the Square the last vehicle was just entering Broadway Avenue from Princess Street, - The .procession was led by the band, and consisted of displays by the rations schools, each respective display, being followed by the pupils of that school In fancy and plain costlimes. Decorated bicycles were much in evidence, the total number in the parade being 200. Tharear portion of the procession was composed of a number of the industrial ana trade exhibits, which participated in the grand parade on Wednesday. Many humorous vehicles and burlesflUe entertainers provided humour. On arrival at the showgrounds a grand pageant of youth was held, the pupils of’ the city secondary schools providing an entertainment of exhibitions of phy» sical drill, sports, eurythmics, and marching. There was a large attendance of spectators, including the Mayor, Mr. A. J. Graham, and Mr. J. A. Nash; M.P.
