Returned Soldier’s Death HOME DESTROYED BY FIRE By Telegraph—Press Association. Gisborne, November 23. • Sad circumstances were revealed at an inquest on the body of John Francis Hills, 45 years of age, who was found dead on Waikanae beach from the effects ot a gunshot wound. The evidence showed that deceased, a returned soldier of Ruatoria, had been suffering from shellshock. Ten weeks ago he was married, and after returning from his honeymoon had lived for just over a fortnight in a nefv bungalow he had built on the property. Husband and wife woke up in the night to find the place in flames. . Their furniture, wedding presents and all other effects were destroyed. . This, combined with shellshock, resulted in a depressed state of mind. The coroner returned a verdict tnat Hills died of a gunshot wound in the chest, self-inflicted, while in a state of acute mental depression. »
