Roses at Karori The Karori Horticultural Society held its rose show on Saturday in the Parish Hall. Mr. W. Simm, president, expressed regret that owing to unfavourable weather, the entries were not so full as had been anticipated. The champion bloom had been exhibited by Mr. H. E. Wahlers, and he was pleased to sec that a Karori resident had been successful in gaining this distinction. Opening the show, Mr. K. A. Wright, M.P., said that it was a credit to the district that the society now had over 500 members. That was a wonderful record. The growth of Karori had been most Denounced during the last ten years. The district would continue to grow, aud as it grew, so would the society. The chamirion rose was a specimen of Desmond Johnson, grown by Mr. H. E. Wahlers. The E. K. Porteous Trophy for six distinct roses was Avon by Mr. R. M. Porteous. Mr. H. S. Hislop s Vase for six roses with own foliage, went to Mr. D. S. Patrick, and Mr. G. b. Nicoll won his own trophy for three blooms (distinct). A feature of the show was Mr. L>. Sutherland’s exhibition of pot plants, which Avon for him nine first prizes ana eight seconds.
