TREASURER’S SECRET
Financial Proposals RUMOURS IN SYDNEY Heavier Salary Tax FORCED LOAN SUGGESTED Br Telegraph—Pre«a Association—Copyright. Rec. November 23, 5.5 p.m.) Sydney, November 23. Rumour is busy forecasting the State Government's financial proposals, but whatever the State Treasurer, Mr. J. T. Lang, may have in mind, it remains a well-kept secret. A big increase in salaries' tax Is regarded as certain. A shilling -in the pound is mentioned in place of threepence, but one suggested alternative in a levy of two shillings in the pound on all moneys in the shape of forced loan bonds bearing interest at 5 per cent., which will be issued to persons and taxed, the levy yielding ten to twelve millions in a year. From this source it is expected that material assistance will be obtained in absorbing the unemployed.
