PARTY ALLEGIANCE
Position of Mr. Davy STATEMENT ISSUED A statement of his relationship with the Reform and United Parties has been issued by Mr. A. E. Davy, who at different times in the past has worked prominently in the interests of both. “It is known more or less generally that I have been working in the interests of the Reform Party for some time past, although not allied in any way to them,” says Mr. Davy. “During this period I have had splendid opportunity of reviewing the political position in. this country, and as a result I have definitely decided to throw in my lot with the Reform Party. My political career has been the subject, I know, of some adverse and some unfair criticism. However, at all times I have done what I considered to be my duty to the country and have always fought my opponents on political not personal grounds. I deplore the unfortunate and untrue personal elements that have been introduced by certain sections, not only in regard to myself but also my opponents, of whom I have always had the highest regard. “My decision is in accordance with the promise that I made before the Prime Minister and his Cabinet at a United Party gathering a few days after the general election. I stated that if the United Party did not do its duty to the country I would work just as hard to put them out as I did to put them in. The way in which this duty has been treated needs no explaining. In deciding to join the Reform Party I do so with the firm belief that it is the only true anti-Socialist party in the Dominion. As things stand at present I am satisfied that the safest political pilot for this country through its troubled financial waters is the Reform Party. It is through this party that the sound and sane elements in the country can be consolidated, and it is my intention to assist this in any way I can. “I intend to commence, active organising in response to an invitation from the Manawatu area in that part of the Dominiorf first.” It was stated at Wellington Reform headquarters yesterday that Mr. Davy’s association with the party was through the Palmerston North group. He had heen appointed by the group committee to organise in that area.
