RADIO FOR PORIRUA
Response Considered Generous
Tenders for the installation of radio equipment at the Porirua Mental Hospital closed yesterday. The organiser of the public appeal, Mr. L. O. Hooker, with whom the tenders closed, stated it would be some time before the successful tenderer was announced. He intimated that it was not intended to announce the individual prices submitted by tenderers. A large number of subscriptions in connection with the appeal are still outstanding, and it is Mr. Ilooker’s intention to coipmunicate with all those who have not returned lists by December 1, as it is desired to account for all lists for auditing purposes. Eight thousand lists were issued, and so far 721 have been returned blank and 843 with donations. This leaves a balance of 6431 still to be accounted for. The total amount of money received from the . 843 lists and by direct subscriptions at noon on Wednesday was £lOO3/9/7. This money has been deposited witli the Public Trustee at Hawera. Mr. Hooker considers that tlie response has been a very generous tftie in view of the financial stringency.
