BOROUGH’S THREAT
Power Supply Contract TALK OF CANCELLATION Dominion Special Service. Hastings, November 19. A threat recently made by the Mayor of Hastings, Mr. G. F. Roach, that Hastings would cancel its contract with the Hawke’s Bay Power Board and resume generating with its own plant was I ta r " ated by a letter which came before the board to-day. , , , In making the threat Mr. Roach had apparently the unanimous sanction-of his council, and claimed that the borough could save £9OO yearly by cancellation. The board to-day did not discuss the letter, but deferred it till the. December meeting, when a notice of motion dealing with the matter will be put forward. Saying Hastings does not wish to be a financial clog in the board’s undertakings,” the letter goes on to say that, in certain quarters criticism accusing the board of selling current to Hastings at a loss had been uttered. The board resolved to ask the council for information regarding the'claim that an annual saving of £9OO could he made so that the board might have an argument to back up a claim that the Government might reduce the pnee of current.
