Alleged Attempt to Defraud CLAIM FOR INSURANCE By Telegraph.—Press Association. Blenheim, November 19. Roy Gladstone Ewart pleaded not guilty to a charge that with intent to de-fraud-he attempted to obtain £6OO from the Phoenix Assurance Company by allegedly falsely representing that the value of the stock in a mercery shop at which a fire took place was £9OO, whereas in fact it was only £9l. He was further charged with making a false declaration with regard to an insurance claim. Ewart pleaded not guilty, as he also did to three charges of allegedly receiving sums ranging from £2/2/- to £5/10/from clients of N. Tossman and Company, furriers, Christchurch, and failing to account for the same, thus committing theft. Several similar theft charges involving sums below £2 were adjourned pending the Supreme Court sitting, to which accused was committed for trial on the major counts. !
