“MERRIE ENGLAND”

The final practices for “Merrie England” to be given by the Orpheus Musical Society in the Y.W.C.A. Hall this evening were held last evening, and show that a very fine and enjoyable performance is assured. There are some very tuneful numbers in this opera, probably the best known being the baritone solo by Essex, “The Yeomen of England,” which eminently suits Mr. Blow’s robust voice. In delightful contrast to this number is the contralto solo, “O Peaceful England,” sung by Mrs. E. J. Coppock (nee Miss Lily Mackie), who is cast for the part of Queen Elizabeth. Mr. W. Roy Hill is sustaining the tenor role of Sir Walter Raleigh. The chorus work is well up to the high standard already set by the society under Air. Harison Cook, and with those able accompanists, Miss Hazel Rowe and Sir. H. E. Brusey. the success if the performance is assured. Owing to copy right restrictions the concert will not be broadcast. The box plan is at the Bristol.
