Dairy Factory Managers

Palmerston North, August 26. An unusual set of circumstances was revealed when a Conciliation Council met at Palmerston North to-day to consider an application by the Wellington Dairy Factory Managers’ Industrial Union of Workers for an- increase in wages and other improvements in the present working conditions. The union was represented by Messrs. C. Gough, J. A., Brooking and E. McBrierly, while Mr. R. Fulton, of New Plymouth, appeared as agent. The employers were represented by Messrs. J. W Rodden and P. J. Small. Business was incommittee, and at the conclusion the commissioner, Mr. D. Hally, intimated that the unusual circumstances had prevented anything being aecomP 1 From* statements made it appears that two association of managers esis. Firstly there is the union of workers which is a “ glst^ e ? association under the Act and which claimed that the majority of the managers had been enrolled as members of their particular organisation. On tn other hand there was a section of “ nl l ag ' ers who had banded themselves together, but who did not claim to have any registration. Nevertheless they too claimed a major portion of the managers within their fold. As the latter organisation proposed to meet on Honday next to con slder their position, proceedings were adjourned in the hope that an omnlgnmntion of the two sections would be brought the hope of amalgamation not be fulfilled then It will be necessary to refer the position to the Arbitration Court for advice whether an award should be made. ’Should the court decide in the affirmative, then the parties will be called together again and nn endeavour made to arrange the matter as provided by the Arbitration Act.
