SNOW, HAIL, AND RAIN
Yesterday’s Weather Snow, hall, rain, a bitter south wind, and occasional bursts of sunshine were Wellington’s weather portion yesterday. It was one of the bitterest of days, and the snow-covered hills on the eastern side of the harbour bore witness to the severity of the storm. For the 24 hours ended at midnight 5 points of rain was registered on “The Dominion’s” rain gauge. Fine weather prevailed at Auckland, but a strong southerly wind made conditions cold. The barometer stood at 20.95.
The weather at Christchurch yesterday morning was a mixture of rain, hail, and sunshine. The conditions became settled early in the afternoon and the balance of the day was fine but cold, the thermometer recording 43 degrees. The barometer was falling again, the reading last evening being 29.85. Following a heavy fall of snow at Dunedin on Thursday night, the weather was fine, but unsettled yesterday. Bright sunshine was recorded during the morning, but the sky clouded in the afternoon. The wind was light from the south-west. The maximum temperature was 46 degrees. The barometer was fairly high and steady, last evening’s reading being 29.851 n.
