The Junior Dominion

Dear Little People,— I zvish you could sec the pile of favourite book reviezvs in front of me at this moment. I have read each one in turn, and ■it was one of the hardest tasks I have ever had. to decide which was the best. Imagine it, and you zvill understand that the strange dream 1 had last night was not because of late supper or green apples or anything like that. I dreamed that old Silas Marner ran away with Little Lord Fauntleroy, hoping to hold him to ransom. After them came the old Earl, looking most vicious, and lashing the whip of the cruel mandarin in “The Story of the Willow Pattern Plate.” The was weeping loudly, and Micawber was trying to comfort her by saying, “Don’t run so fast. Let’s stay here and wait for him to turn up.” And all the time Pollyanna stood by, laughing till the tears ran down her cheeks because nobody could catch Silas Marner.

I think I must have joined in the chase, too, because when it was all over there wasn’t a single blanket left, which zvas a serious thing with Jack Frost about. Well, I know you arc longing to hear the result, so I shall not keep you in suspense a minute longer. The best reviczv was sent by “Lochinvar,” Petone, who chose “Little Lord Fauntleroy.” Other very good entries were those of “Jocelyn ” Kelburn, Guy Smith, Hastings, Frances Minton, Masterton, and “Madame Pompadour,” Eketahuna, I am very glad that I didn’t have to write about my favourite book, because I should never have been able to make up my mind, but I do agree that you chose the nicest tales on the bookshelf. Congratulations, everyone, on your splendid work! —KIWI.
