CONTINUOUS GALE
South Pacific Weather SHIPPING HAMPERED Dominion Special Service Auckland, July 24. For the past fortnight a continuous gale from the south and south-west has been experienced in the South Pacific, according to the report of the Federal steamer Paklpaki, which arrived at Auckland from Liverpool this afternoon. In spite of tremendous seas that continuously broke aboard and flooded the decks, the Paklpaki did not’heave to, and on Tuesday she hoped to make port the following evening. Yesterday, however, the gale was so strong that she had to turn and run northward before it. By the time the weather had moderated sufficiently for her to resume her voyage she was 100 miles off her course and could not arrive until to-day. No damage was done on board. The City of Khartoum, which was expected to arrive at Auckland from New York this evening, now radios that she will not get here before daybreak to-morrow. She Is on the same course as the Paklpaki travelled, and is probably meeting similar weather.
