The marriage of Miss Rona Elworthy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Elworthy, of Craigmore, Timaru, to Mr. I’atrick White, of Hawke’s Bay, will take place in St. Mary’s Church on August 21, says an exchange. Miss Legge, of Raetihi, Miss Knight, of Waikare, and Miss Uniee Dement, of Wellington, are spending a fortnight in and around London (writes a London correspondent) before leaving for a tour of the Continent, which includes Holland, Belgium, the Rhine Valley, Switzer-. land, Italy, and France. Miss Grace Mackintosh, of Aberdeen, has been appointed principal of Columba Girls’ College, Dunedin, in succession to Miss Frances Ross. Miss Mackintosh, who is a graduate of Aberdeen University, with honours in English literature and language, was selected from a large number of New Zealand and British graduates. She will take up her duties in September. Miss M. O. Stoddart, the Christchurch artist, has received advice that two of her paintings have been hung this year in the Salon des Artistes Francais, Paris, The two pictures are ‘‘Goat Creek, Otira,” and “The Stocking Glacier, Mt. Cook.” This is the 18th occasion on which Miss Stoddart’s pictures have been exhibited at the Salon, and for the last six years two have been accepted each year. Over one hundred members of the Canterbury Women’s Club, Christchurch, attended a reception held recently in honour of Backhaus, the great pianist, and Mrs. Backhaus, In the absence of Mrs. J. A. Flesher, president of the club, Mrs. R. T. Tosswill, in a charming speech, briefly welcomed the guests of honour, who were accompanied by Mr. E. J. Gravestock. New Zealand is sending a strong delegation to the education section of the Pan-Pacific Women’s Conference, to be held in Honolulu next month. Miss M. E. Sims, president of the Federation of University Women, and Miss H. Hull, superintendent of free kindergartens, both of Christchurch, and Miss Elsie Andrews, president of the New Zealand Women Teachers’ Association, of New Plymouth, leave by the Niagara next week. Mr. and Mrs. W. Collett, of Clevedon. celebrated their golden wedding on July 8. Mr. and Mrs. Collett were married at the Rev. A. Webb’s residence, Auckland, ip 1880. Mr. Collett was employed by H. B. Morton and Company. Customs Street, Auckland, for many years. The family comprise: Mrs. Jt Hyland (Ponsonby), Mrs. J. Alexander (Clevedon), and Mr. H. Collett (Mangapehi). During the evening Mrs. Collett was presented with gifts from the Sewing Guild. Clevedon Croquet Club, and the Mothers’ Club, Y.W.C.A., by the Rev. and Mrs. W. Rattray, of Clevedon.
