POPPY DAY FUNDS

Helping Returned Soldiers Every year the : returned soldiers’ associations hold a street day when poppies are sold, the funds to go towards giving employment, usually under municipal control, ,to returned soldiers who may be out of work. Local bodies, generously, have been in the habit of subsidising such funds as are allocated to the branch of the R.S.A. within the particular borough, and the total is again subsidised by the Government. The following notice is oil a wall of the Lower Hutt Borough Council office: “Any ex-service men requiring assistance under the Poppy Day Fund aud who reside in the borough of Lower Hutt please call on the secretary of the Hutt Vnlley branch of the R.S.A., Mr. L. C. Driver, 66 Fitzherbert Street, Petone, or on the president, Mr. R. W. Toomath, chemist, Jackson Street, Petone, when the necessary chit will be provided to obtain work. “It will be necessary to produce discharge papers or a certificate of war service.”

Connor—Sullivan Wedding

The wedding was solemnised at the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul, Lower Hutt, of Winifred Mary, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Sullivan, to Roy Melville, son of Mrs. and the late Mr. M. Connor.

The bride was effectively gowned in beige georgette and lace, with fitting corsage and long sleeves.' The double skirt was flared, the lower flare being of lace. The bow on the shoulder and belt were caught with diamante buckles. Her hat was of beige felt, gold braided and with transparent brim. The bride was escorted by her father, and Mr. Prince carried out the duties of best man. The Rev. Father Daly officiated, and Miss Phyllis Connolly was the organist. The bridesmaid, Miss Rita Kelly, wore a charming frock, the corsage being of lemon satin, and sleevelss, while the long skirt was of lemon georgette picoted frills and peaked at each side. Her wide hat was of wine velour, her bouquet being of pale lemon and wine coloured chrysanthemums. autumn leaves and wine coloured streamers.

The bridegroom’s gift to the bride was a fox fur. Miss Kelly’s gift being a gold wristlet watch. A reception was afterward held in the Lyceum Hall, which was decorated with yellow and wine chrysanthemums and autumn leaves. Mrs. Sullivan received the guests. . Mrs. Connor, the bridegroom’s mother, was in a black tailored frock, with model hat of black satin; Mrs. Morgan, aunt of the bride, wore black silk worked in grey, black straw hat. with osprey at the side; Mrs. Morgan, the bride's sister, wore a jumper suit of green and model fawn hat; Mrs. Sullivan, jun.. was in copper tnarocain. with baiigkok bat trimmed with copper and green; Miss Marnie wore navy blue silk with felt hat to tone.

Others present were Mrs. Fitzgerald, in black and white georgette, black coat and hat: Mrs. Monohan. navy tailored suit, blue hat to (one; Mrs. Hutchings, brown tailored suit with bat to tone; Miss Mamie Fitzgerald, bine frock and h-’t; Miss Rne Fitzgerald, bott'e green: Miss Alice Fitzgerald. green: Mrs. Sydney Johnson, black frock with white furs: M'ss Edna Kelly, bottle green, with hat to tone.

A dance, at which about eighty people wore present, was held in the evening.
