Scientific Research Board
Sir, — I notice in “The Dominion” a few days ago a statement made by Mr. G. Shirtcliffe re the doing of the Scientific and Research Board. It consists of things that should be done, and what they hope to do. but never what actual good has been done.' Tlie sum of £43,000 was the amount appropriated for this board for one year. Where does it go to? Are all the members highly-paid men? The Cawthron Institute is' the. only place in New Zealand that does any good in diseases, and did it before any board was ever formed. The Agricultural Department could do all the board does, and as well, without the huge expense. Being a farmer, I would like very much, to find out if any expense incurred by this board has been justified by results. T think it will be found that this is one of the unnecessary departments that can be cut out. — I am, etc., FARMER. Grey town, July 10.
