A party from Invercargill who recently visited Sandy Point Domain for a day’s shooting were surprised to find a scarcity of rabbits where they used to swarm. As a matter of _fact, it was here the first rabbits were liberated in boutnland, the object being to provide sport for visitors. In a\few years the whole landscape was honeycombed with burrows ami the released sandy subsoils converted good grazing country into a waste. The remarkable diminution is apparently due to stoats and weasels, which were seen in large numbers, while only three rabbits were sighted during the day. A. gratifying feature of the clearance is that considerable patches of country previously barren ■ are now carrying grass and the sheep running there are in good condition.
