SEVEN INJURED
TWO SERIOUSLY HURT i CAR AND TRUCK COLLIDE A TERRIFIC SMASH Dominion Special Service. New Plymouth, May 5. Two persons were injured seriously about the head and face, and five others received shock and minor cuts when a highpowered motor-car with five passengers collided just off a bridge on the main road near Midhirst i at 8 o’clock this morning with a light half-ton truck with two 'passengers. The injured in the high-powered car, which was owned and driven by Mr. J. Somerton, a baker, of New Plymouth, were:— I MRS. SAMUEL OLLIVER, Dawson Street, New Plymouth —Severe scalp wounds, possibly skull injuries, and minor cuts; she is suffering from shock and her condition to-night was reported satisfactory. J. SOMERTON—Cuts about the hands from flying glass. — JOHNSTON, of Waitara— Minor cuts.
MRS. E. L. THORPE, of New Plymouth—Cut shoulder and shock. MRS. EDGAR DOUGH, New Plymouth, suffering from shock. LIEUT.-COL. L. H. JARDINE, of Eltham, engineer of the Taranaki Power Board, whose truck he was driving, received a compound fracture of the right upper jaw, a broken nose, and minor cuts and shock . He lies in hospital at Stratford, and his condition is reported satisfactory tonight. — BETTERIDGE, of Eltham, an employee of the Power Board, minor cuts on his hands. The motor-car was bound for the races. When near a small bridge the crash occurred with the truck travelling in the opposite direction. The impact occurred with great force just as the Power Board vehicle had left the bridge. Both vehicles were badly damaged. __
