McCONACHY IN SYDNEY
THE DISPUTE WITH SMITH FUTURE ENGAGEMENTS (Ker. Max 15, 7 p.m.) Sydney, May 15. The New Zealand billiards player, Clark McConachy, has arrived. Referring to the unpleasantness with Smith, McConachy says the magistrate, commenting on Smith’s charge of assault, remarked that the matter should never have come before the court. The dispute was not creditable to British 1 sport. McConachy considers that, the fact that an old cloth was on the table, with a hole in the spot, mark, and unwashed balls of varying measurements were used, tended to put him off ids game When he drew attention to these matters the reply was that nothing could be done as the orders had come from Smith. McConachy thinks that Davis is I England’s best player. The younger - school is definitely coming into its own. s After a brief visit to New Zealand 1 McConachy will return to Sydney for i matches with Walter Lindrum, after • which the pair will go to South Africa for u month’s contract, and thence go to England for a six mouths' engage- 1 meut, under conditions which will not j prevent them competing in the world’ s , championship next year.
