PARTY CAKES.
MOONLIGHT FANCIES. Required: Four ounces each of flour and castor sugar, two eggs, and two ounces of margarine or butter. Make a saucepan of water hot, put the eggs and sugar in a basin, over the pan of water, and whisk for about ten minutes. Add the flour and butter—slightly melted —and stir well. Pour the mixture into a well greased shallow tin, and bake in a moderate oven for twenty minutes. Cut the cake into crescent shapes, and decorate with pink or white royal icing. ROYAL ICING. Four ounces of sifted icing sugar, a little white of egg, and a few drops of lemon juice. Put the sifted sugar in a basin, make a well in centre, add enough white of egg to make a stiff paste. Add lemon juice, stir, then spread icing on cakes with a knife that has been dipped in hot water. If you prefer icing pink, add a few drops of cochineal. Her underdress must be bluish-green, her overdress crimson, with the fur left white or shaded a pale cream, jewels in her hair and on her forehead.
