A record of 347 standard weight eggs in 50 weeks was completed yesterday by a Black Orpington hen competing in the Taranaki egg-laying contest at Norma nby. This beats by four the New Zealand Black Orpington record of 343 eggs for 50 weeks, and, it is claimed, also tops by three eggs the world’s heavy-breed record. • The bird is the property of Mrs. D. M. Waddell, of Tongaporutu, Waitara, and is named Tekawau Princess. In addition to the standard weight eggs the hen has produced three eggs with soft shells which are not included in the test. The; hen is being kept in the competition pen for another two weeks in an attempt to lower the further record of 354 eggs for 52 week. She has 14 days In which to produce the required eight eggs.
