INSTITUTE TROUP AND PACK

The Boys’ Institute Troop and Pack at their first pound night for this year entertained thirty parents and friends. Amongst those present were Mr. P. Fraser, M.P., and Mrs. Fraser, Senior-Sergeants Batler and Edwards, Mr. Kelly, of Khandallab, the district secretary, and members of the troop committee: Members of St. Mark’s and St. James’ Troops were also guests, being accompanied by S.M.’s Ellery and R. Wilson (St. James) and A.S.M. Constable and Rover Mathie (St. Mark’s). The troop chairman, Mr. W. J. Jordan, welcomed the visitors and presented the S.M. with a cup for the troop on behalf of Mr. C. S. Moore, for inter-patrol competition. The newly formed kazoo band of the Hawk Patrol gave an item, and other items were recitations, competitive games and songs, followed by supper, served by the troop committee. In a speech Mr. Fraser spoke of the good work being accomplished by the Scouts and wished them good scouting for 1930. The organisation of the troop work for the remainder of the year will include lire work, first aid, boxing and wrestling.

A Twenty-Year-Old Troop. The Brooklyn Troop, one of the oldest in Wellington, Intend to make the twentyfirst vear of their existence a record one. Thirteen spent, a very enjoyable week-end at Sinclair Head, ajid were very loth to re, turn to the. City again. The only , things all were pleased t.o leave behind were the mosquitoes. A number of Scouts are engaged in fire instruction at the local fire brigade station, this being followed by ambulance instruction, by the troop's own instructors. Scout H. Callow has been promoted to patrol second of the “Tula”': second-elass badges have been gained by Seouts Jones. Barber, K; MacPheraon, Bentley, Johns, Patrol. Leader A. Badland has passed the swimmer’s and cook’s badges, and PatrolLeader G. Smith has also passed these badges; Patrol Second H, Callow has passed for the cook's badge and Scout Jones tho swimmer's.

First Wellington Rovers. A special gathering of the Ist Wellington Rovers was hold on Saturday night in the Rover Den, St. John’s Ambulance Association rooms, when over 10Q were present. Tho evening took the form of n social gathering, interspersed with games and impromptu Items by the various crews. The Metropolitan Commissioner, Sir Alfred Robin, K.C.M.G., C. 8., presided. During the evening Rover-Leader C. Mencben was presented, with bls warrant. Rover Mate J. Cooke, Rover Second S. Gardner, and Rovers D. Bnrkliouse and T. Mathie, received second year stars, and Rover K. PJcton received his first year star. The first issue of the Wellington “Rover" was available, and Mr. H. Amos has offered to publish a quarterly issue, Which will be available oh July 12, the first anniversary of the founding of the Ist. Wellington Rovers. Articles will be contributed by Messrs. F. W. Voss'eler, on tramping; 11. Amos, orf athletics, and 'Mintio Brown on pioneering, Rover Second Slack will bo responsible for the wireless column, and humour will be contributed by Rover Second R. Miles. Trentluun's New Scoutmaster. .

Members of the Scouting fraternity will welcome Into their ranks again Mr, Sims, late of the Ngaio Troop, who has laken office as Scoutmaster ot the Trentham Troop. A fine gathering of Valley Rovers ami Scouts welcomed him to the first meetlug last week, and a public meeting is to be called shortly to reform the committee. Welcome to New Governor. On the occasion of the -welcome to their Excellencies. Lord and Lady Bledisloe. which Is to take place at the Town Hall on Thursday night, March 20. the Girl Guides and Boy Scouts will lino tho nislo as was dnno on the occasion of the farewell to sir Charles Forgusson and Lady Alice Tergiisson. Ten Scouts from each of the five districts arc roouirod to be in attendance at the Town Hall not Inter than 7.30 p.m.
