VISIT TO JOHANNESBURG COLD CONTRACTED ON JOURNEY (United Presß Association.— By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Rec. February 2, 5.5 p.m.) Cape Town, February 1, The Prince of Wales contracted a cold on the journey to Johannesburg, but Is much better. After breakfast and a rest he played a round of golf at the Country Club with his equerry. It was deemed inadvisable that he should go down the Crown Mines, as arranged. The train stopped to allow a visit to the battlefields of Belmont, Magersfontein and Modder River. He visited the direct recovery process pulsator diamond-cutting factory at Kimberley. University girl students de; sirous of presenting a bouquet at Johannesburg on behalf of fellow students were not allowed by the police to approach the Prince, but a seven-year-old girl slipped through the cordon and offered a buttonhole of carnations. The Prince shook the girl’s hand warmly, and the crowd cheered loudly at the courteous act. The Prince left in the evening, benefited by the Invigorating air. He arrives at Bulawayo on Monday morning. A golf match has been arranged and he leaves at noon for Salisbury and Beira.
