EXTRADITION ORDER GRANTED
SOUGHT BY NEW SOUTH WALES POLICE
Further evidence was heard in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday in connection with the case wherein an extradition order was sought by the NeW South Wales police against J. Bloomfield in order that he might answer to a false pretences charge in Sydney. Mr. J. Meltzer, who appeared for aheused, said there had been discrepancies in the evidence of the police officer from Sydney, and he asked that an order be made for the discharge of his client, or, alternatively, that nn order be made postponing the return of accused to Sydney in order that depositions could be obtained from Sydney. Lengthy evidence was heard from accused. Mr. E. Page, S.M., said there were certain admitted facts in the case that were not altogether to the credit of prisoner During the time accused had been in Australia he had sent away to his people or others a sum which he stated to be £207, while he brought away £lB4. so that he had sent or taken away a total of £391 from Australia. He came away in n measure secretlv; he did not appear to have advised the majority of his creditors, and he left behind debts in excess of £5OO. All those facts went to show that he had not acted honestly, although that was not necessarily proof that there was a case for sending him back. But three days before the receipt of the goods he received a certain permit to leave the country, and that lent colour to the allegation that he had obtained the goods by false pretences.
“It seems to me clear that defendant’s evidence falls short of showing that this application is not made in good faith, and I think mv duty is therefore to make an order for his return." said Mr. Page. He made the order accordingly.
