FOXTON NOTES

Foxton, January 23. Ideal weather conditions made the holiday very pleasant locally, especially after such inclement weather which has characterised this summer, lhe beach was well patronised. A. number of people visited Wellington for the purpose of attending the races. Captain Larsen, who has been seriously ill is now on the road to recovery. Mr S. Read, of Wellington, who has been on holiday in Foxton, returned to the city to-day. The friends of Mr. D. Ogilvy, who has been confined to his home for some time, will be pleased to learn that he is making satisfactory progress towards recovery. . , . 'Mr. H. Robinson, of Wairoa, is spending a holiday with his mother, Mrs. F. Robinson, of Thynne Street. Mr. J. Martin, of the local Post Office staff, has received notice of his transfer on promotion to Raetihi. The Foxton-Levin road is now clear for traffic. A little flood water is. still over the road, but not sufficient to interfere with motor traffic. The m.v. Foxton, which arrived in port with a full cargo, hopes to leave again for the south to-night. The vessel encountered ft little trouble in making the wharf owing to the recent flood having altered the channel. There was a large gathering of Brethren in Foxton on Anniversary Day. when special services were conducted in the Gospel Hall. Visitors were present from all parts of the district and also from Auckland and Wellington. The local Plunket Society held a successful shop day at the beach on Wednesday as a result of which the society's funds will benefit to a considerable extent.
