LABOUR PAPER’S WARNING TO PREMIER BRITISH PROPOSALS THE EXTREME LIMIT (British Official Wireless.) Rugby, January 1. The “Daily Herald,” the Labour newspaper, publishes a leading article on the formation of a Wafd Ministry in Egypt by Nah as Pasha as the result of the Wafd’s victory in the elections. It expects that Nahas will intimate to his Parliament his intention to negotiat« a Treaty with Britain on the basis «£ Mr. Henderson’s proposals. While recognising that Nahas will be within his right in asking for a modification ♦f details, the paper urges him to remember that 1 tho essentials of the proposals do represent the extreme limit to which a British Government can go. The article proceeds: “The British Government has had to face a strong attack for going so far. It will stand by its offer to Egypt, but the Egyptians must co-operate. Were they to ask not merely for minor modifications but for amendments touching the substance of the proposals, their pressure for change in one direction would be met by an insistent pressure for change in other directions, and the Treaty might take a form not more but less favourable to Egypt than the proposals. By accepting the .substance of the proposals ns unalterable, they will be safeguarding themselves as well as facilitating speedy signature of the Treaty.” V MAIN OBJECTIVES OF MINISTRY Cairo, January 1. Nahas Pasha has formed a Government. The Ministry’s main objectives include Egypt’s real Independence, with an honourable stable agreement with Britain, combined with, an amicable policy towards all foreign Powers.
