LAUNCH IN DISTRESS

ARAHINA TO THE RESCUE The 30ft motor-launch Taihqa, with the owner, A. Butler, a motor-trimmer, of 118 Adelaide Road, and a friend, was returning from a fishing excursion yesterday afternoon, when her engine became disabled off Barrett’s reef, near the Heads. As there was a strong north-westerly there was some risk of the launch being blown out to sea. An improvised signal of distress was hoisted about 3 p.m. The launch had insufficient canvas to make any headway, so the occupants awaited help. At 3.45 p.m. the Harbour Board’s pilot launch Arahina left the wharf in response to the summons, and picked up the disabled launch which she towed safely to the Pipitea Wharf at 5.40 p.m.
