Meteorological Office, Wellington, Thursday, January 2, 1930, 4 p.m.

A moderate anti-cyelone has moved on to the Dominion, with its centre in the far north. A rather vigorous depression is now situated over South-Eastern Australia. Winds moderate westerly, veering to northerly and freshening from Cook W Strait southwards. Seas generally smooth to moderate, but rising shortly on the West Coast south of Cape Egmont. Northerly winds in the Eastern Tasman Sea; moderate with smooth to moderate seas in the northern portion, but increasing strong to gale force, with rising seas in the central and southern portions. Weather fair and warm generally at first, but soon becoming .unsettled L the western and southern districts of the South Island, with rain developing and later cloud increasing In other districts.
